The manufacturing industry is a constantly changing mosaic. There are many pieces to the picture. And, there are many strategies in play to achieve the vision of an innovative and competitive industry that contributes to our region’s vitality and quality of life.

We also will tell how a network of non-profits, such as workforce agencies and higher education, play a significant role in the Manufacturing 21 Coalition strategy to advance the industry.

During the past four years the Manufacturing 21 Coalition (MFG 21) successfully has worked in a partnership to help Northwest companies supply or develop products to the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).

May 2008
The Gleeble 3500, capable of testing the thermal and physical properties of alloys and other materials, arrived at Portland State University last month in 30 boxes. Oregon InC. helped purchase the machine for the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at PSU, which contracts with many regional companies to conduct testing of materials they use in manufacturing.

January 2008
January, 2008 - Fueled by a $1.8 million grant from WorkSystems, Inc. (WSI), the Manufacturing 21 Coalition has been invited to design a workforce-training program focused on meeting the needs of the region’s manufacturing industry.
