MFG 21 promotes 2009 legislative action to fill workforce training pipeline
Published: September 04, 2008A small team of MFG 21 investors is working to develop a fresh political approach to Oregon’s workforce challenges following the 2007 Oregon legislature’s failure to take significant action.
Many of you saw our draft proposal advocating a focus on filling the training pipeline at our spring managers’ meeting. Our team has continued to refine our ideas and begun vetting it with key legislators, the governor’s office and others. So far our ideas have been well received, but there is a good deal of work to be done to coordinate the efforts of business groups and state agencies developing ideas for the coming session in 2009.
The MFG 21 Board committed itself to taking a leadership role to help push the state to action on our workforce challenges. MFG 21 won’t have any other issue in the 2009 session.
We know it won’t be easy, but our bottom line is very simple. It is time for us to stop talking about the problem and to take action.
